Letter to the Editor: Stop EDC supervisors from disbanding Human Rights Commission, ending bias trainingSubmitted by paula on Sun, 03/19/2023 - 3:35pm
southtahoenow.com/story/03/19/2023/letter-editor-stop-edc-supervisors-disbanding-human-rights-commission-ending-bias-t

El Dorado County Board of Supervisors is planning to dissolve the Human Rights Commission through the consent calendar on their agenda for March 21 at 10 a.m.
In El Dorado County where there are currently multiple lawsuits involving bias issues, a high school under sanction by the California Interscholastic Federation for a racist incident, and with many residents unhoused following the Caldor fire and unable to get individual FEMA assistance, the Supervisors are choosing to significantly reduce the number of commissions that require mandatory Implicit Bias training from seventy to five (Item #8. 23-0479) and are dissolving the County's Human Rights Commission (Item #9. 23-0283). This will all be done by consent calendar. The commission will be dissolved by ordinance without a public hearing. This will occur on Tuesday, 3/21/23.
If you object to the disbanding of the Commission or curtailing implicit bias training, sign on just before 10 a.m. by zoom https://eldorado.legistar.com/Calendar.aspx and raise your hand immediately with the hand icon when the consent calendar is announced.
Also, listen carefully to see if any of the supervisors pull your item number of interest off the consent calendar for discussion. If so, lower your hand icon.  If the item is pulled off consent, your comments will only be accepted when that item comes up for discussion.
To attend in person: BOS, 330 Fair Lane, Placerville.

2023 SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED TO ERIC ZAVALA

The recipient of the 2023 SLTDC $1000  Theresa Golden Scholarship given to a
STHS graduate goes to Eric Zavala. This year's winner is a local young
man who has shown exemplary  achievement in High School with straight "A's" through all 4 years of  course work. Eric earned himself a free
ski pass to Sierra At Tahoe every year due to this achievement. As well
as his great academic success Eric found time to be on the boys soccer
team, a member of the Climate Crew and Generation Green, and also to be
involved with the Upward Bound group at LTCC. And he has also been
working in the food industry in his spare time.
In addition to all of these activities and school he also has been volunteering
in our local community helping with trash pick ups, St. Theresa's,
school activities, League to Save Lake Tahoe, and LTCC. Eric has been
one busy guy!

His supporters say this about Eric. "Eric is a bright young man with an
incredible amount of potential. He is dedicated to learning and
improving, while also helping those around him rise to the occasion."
And "Eric puts his best in whatever he is doing and tries to exceed it
as always. Eric is a nice, kind guy that is willing to put his ALL in to
every day."

Eric's goals include attending a 4 year college and studying
Architecture or Engineering. His biggest goal is to become an Architect
and come back to South Lake Tahoe and "build beautiful places."  He
wants to "give back to the beautiful town where he was born and raised."

Congratulations to Eric Zavala!
